How to choose your CBD product

Step 1: Pick your CBD content and strength

The CBD content is always specified in the product description and highlighted in a red circle above each product's image.

The CBD strength is often given as milligrams (mg) or a percentage. If it's a percentage, you also need to consider the product's volume. For example, a 10ml bottle labelled as 10% CBD contains 1000mg of CBD.

Step 2: Choose the type

Choose between 'full-spectrum', 'broad-spectrum', or 'isolate'. Full-spectrum contains all cannabinoids, including traces of THC, and is often found to be more effective. That's why most of the products in our range are full-spectrum. Broad-spectrum contains a range of cannabinoids but no THC. Isolate contains only CBD.

Step 3: Choose the product form

Consider where and how you'll use the CBD product. For precise dosage and home use, opt for oil with a dropper. For convenience and higher servings on the go, a spray or capsules and gummies would be more suitable.

The seven main types of CBD products are:

  1. CBD oils and sprays: A blend of CBD-rich hemp extract and a carrier oil. It's versatile, easy to use and comes with a dropper or spray for sublingual application.
  2. CBD pastes: A thick substance containing hemp extract, a carrier oil, and often beeswax. It comes preloaded in a syringe for precise dosing.
  3. CBD teas: A blend of dried hemp flowers, buds, stems, and leaves. It contains higher levels of CBDa, CBD’s precursor.
  4. CBD topicals: CBD-infused creams, balms, and ointments for direct application to the skin.
  5. CBD capsules: Convenient for precise dosing. They are flavorless and perfect for on-the-go use.
  6. CBD vapes/e-liquids: Designed for vaporising and inhaling, ensuring CBD reaches your bloodstream quickly.
  7. CBD gummies and sweets: A tasty and enjoyable way to consume CBD, though they often contain added sugar.

Quick tips:

  • Products can be combined for efficiency, e.g., CBD drops/paste and hemp tea, providing a wider range of cannabinoids. Explore our product categories for guidance on each.
  • Start with a small amount, such as 10mg twice a day, and adjust based on your response.
  • Don't exceed 70mg per day, as per UK guidelines.

CBD selection criteria infographic

This collection lists all of the CBD oils, edibles, capsules, pastes, hemp teas, balms and e-liquids available to buy at for the Ageless.

All products have been tested for purity and strength. Before we endorse any hemp CBD brand they must meet our strict selection criteria:

  • Is the total CBD content clear?
  • Is the oil CO2 extracted?
  • Have the products been lab-tested for safety and cannabinoid content?
  • Was it extracted from organically grown hemp?
  • Is the CBD full-spectrum or broad-spectrum and correctly labelled as such?
  • Does it actually work? We test all products before we add them to the collection.

Cannabidiol is a very popular wellness supplement in the UK. However, few stores adhere to the benchmarks we set that ensure the highest standards and purest extracts. We only offer full and broad-spectrum (THC free) products which contain over 400 active compounds that naturally occur in organic hemp. This way you too can benefit from the entourage effect.

After 8 years of testing products from many suppliers and listening to our customers through their reviews and feedback, we've assembled a selection of what we consider the top CBD brands available to buy in the UK today.

CBD facts

What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of over a hundred cannabinoids found in plants of the Cannabis Sativa family. The World Health Organization describes it as "generally well tolerated with a good safety profile".

How does CBD work?

CBD works by blocking enzymes that are responsible for breaking down the useful molecule anandamide. Anandamide is a human cannabinoid that naturally occurs in your body. It acts as a chemical signal to help your body systems maintain a healthy balance. When CBD is present, your anandamide levels build up and your body can quickly respond to any problems it faces.

How much CBD should I take?

how much CBD to take

If you've not tried CBD before, it's worth taking some time to work out what daily serving size provides the results you're looking for. The best way to do this is to begin by taking a small amount and slowly increasing it over a few weeks. For example, you could start with 10mg twice per day. After a week, you can double that amount to 20mg twice per day and, if necessary, do the same the following week.

If you can’t take exactly 10mg because your dropper or spray delivers an odd measure of CBD, get as close as possible. Just remember to start low, go slow and increase by a regular amount each week.

Note: Don’t be tempted to take a larger serving because it wasn’t as expected on day 1. CBD takes time to build up in your system. This is why we recommend taking the same amount each day for the first week. Also, CBD is biphasic which means taking larger amounts has a different and sometimes the opposite effect.

Are there any side effects?

Many people regularly take CBD oil drops and sprays without any problems, but some experience side effects. Scientific studies have noted dry mouth, gastrointestinal problems, and changes in appetite and weight.

I’m taking medication. Can I still use CBD?

CBD can interact with some commonly prescribed drugs. This could change how medication behaves in your body and might produce unexpected results. Before taking CBD, check with your pharmacist or doctor to ensure it is safe to do so.

What are the health benefits of CBD?

You may have seen claims that CBD can improve sleep quality or reduce anxiety and pain. At for the Ageless, you won't find unproven statements. We sell CBD oils and sprays as food supplements only. They're not medicines and aren't intended to offer any specific health benefits.

General precautions

The UK Food Standards Agency recommends that:

  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not use CBD.
  • CBD should not be taken if you're already using any medication.
  • Healthy adults do not take more than 70mg each day.
