Before we personally utilise a CBD e-liquid we always check the safety profile of the product and look for the lab tests to back up any claims made about strength and quality.
As an e-liquid is meant for inhalation we check that the oil is free from microbiological contamination, pesticides, residual solvents and heavy metals. We also look to see that the amount of CBD and other cannabinoids on the packaging matches the lab results. It is common to find some variation from batch to batch so we seek out those that provide consistent high quality every time.
Not only do we check these but you can too. When making a purchase the lab tests should be readily available. If they are not available on the website or by request, the product should be avoided. Your personal health is always the number one priority and it is worth spending more on a brand that takes the extra care to create a safe CBD e-liquid.
The e-liquid must come from a brand that is transparent about their product. We want to know where the hemp is sourced from, find out how it is grown and check for quality standards throughout the hemps journey from seed to store.
To make sure that the vendor keeps the risk of chemical contamination low, we look for products that are organic. Ideally, we want this to come with a recognised organic certification, however we are yet to find a CBD vape juice that has achieved this recognition.
In the absence of a certification for the final product we looked for brands that can demonstrate that the crops were grown organically.
There are three different types of CBD extract and it is important to know the difference as they impact on quality and cost.

Full-spectrum products tend to be most expensive but they contain the most active ingredients.
A 2015 study from the Lautenberg Center in Jerusalem found that a full-spectrum extract was most effective. A full-spectrum extract contains all of the natural cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. This can be small amounts of over 100 different cannabinoids and is sometimes found alongside terpenes and other active compounds. In this form, the ingredients work together creating what is known as the entourage effect.
Due to the way in which different cannabinoids and plant nutrients interact to create a more powerful effect, we always recommend a full-spectrum CBD product. However, we also understand that some people are concerned about consuming THC or cannot as they are tested for this as part of their job.
Broad-spectrum products are similar in price to full-spectrum but on occasion can be a little cheaper overall.
If you are looking to avoid THC consumption, then a broad-spectrum product will be the better choice for you. A broad-spectrum product still includes all the other naturally occurring cannabinoids found in hemp but every effort has been made to reduce any trace of THC. Please note that even though every effort has been made to remove the THC, undetectable traces may still remain.
An isolate based CBD e-liquid will be by far the cheapest but will only contain one active ingredient, cannabidiol.
E-liquids made with CBD isolate offer a useful alternative to full-spectrum or broad-spectrum products. They’re created by refining hemp extract until only the CBD remains.
This is a great option if you’re looking for something more affordable or you want to completely avoid traces of controlled cannabinoids such as THC or CBN.
We check that the liquid is well mixed and with no obvious separation. This can be a problem for e-liquids because CBD does not mix well with standard vape oil bases. It is important to check how well mixed the liquid is because a separating mixture will deliver you inconsistent amounts of CBD.
A great vape oil should also be crystal clear with nothing floating in it. If it contains small particles and is thick or syrupy it won’t vape smoothly. Just as you wouldn’t accept a glass of wine that is cloudy with obvious residue floating in it, don’t accept this in your CBD e-liquid.
