Tom Russell writes extensively about CBD oil, medical cannabis and other ground-breaking food supplements. He and his wife share their home with two daughters and a lifetime’s collection of books Tom is a freelance writer and English graduate with a long-standing interest in cannabis history and culture which inspired him to write in this niche. The prohibition of cannabis in the early 20th century and its links to the growing jazz movement fascinated him. It led him to focus his degree studies on American counterculture. His dissertation explored the writings of the beat generation, in particular Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Joyce Glassman. Academic writing gave him the opportunity to develop his grammar and stylistic approach.
Shortly after, a new hobby reignited his interest in cannabis and CBD. He discovered a love of distance running and became immersed in the back to basics approach of barefoot running set out in Christopher McDougall’s book Born to Run.
This became a broader interest in health and nutrition, and he learnt of the potential of natural substances including CBD, turmeric, ashwagandha and probiotics. Despite his many unusual, and odd-tasting, pre-race concoctions he was unable to increase his running speed to match that of Mo Farrah. Instead he began to look at how natural supplements could improve the health and well-being of himself and his family
When Tom’s wife was indefinitely signed off from work with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, they were both frustrated to find that many NHS guidelines were ineffective and out of date. Recalling his knowledge of CBD, Tom began to research the possibility of using it to treat the CFS. He quickly became absorbed in the details of why and how these natural supplements could interact with the human body.
He studied the uses and effects of cannabis and CBD by reading all the relevant research papers and books he could find. To ensure that his wife got only the best he taught himself the key factors to determine quality of different products. By studying third-party and organic certifications he soon found himself able effectively assess new products. With the help of his wife he began a process of trialing oils, e-liquids, edibles and topicals and discussing his findings with suppliers and retailers.
for the Ageless, Herb Reviews, Your Weed Coupons, and Strain Insider regularly publish his work on CBD, cannabis and supplementation. He also writes for other health sites demonstrating and building his knowledge of CBD, cannabis and health and wellness supplementation. His own health and wellness reviews site debuted earlier this year as a place for him to show case and develop his understanding of supplements built up from his own use and extensive research.
His interest and experience have also made him the right person to write about the legalisation of cannabis for medical use in the UK. He has written on each significant event in the industry and interviewed sources in local police forces on recent policy changes in the approach to cannabis possession.
Following their research as a couple, Tom’s wife began to vape CBD e-liquid. She immediately felt an effect and continues to use it alongside drops and edibles. Tom recalls that on some days he could see the colour returning to her cheeks as she puffed on the vape. Now after potentially never being able to work again she is planning a phased return and is excited for the future.
Tom himself currently uses, lion’s mane, ashwagandha and CBD oil. He believes that they have finally allowed him to recover from a near lifelong battle with depression and given him a zest for life that he thought would never return.
